Sitting pretty as, statistically, the best game on the Wii U, a game we received positively, Pikmin 3 is simply the beginning of slew of major releases that are to follow. The Wonderful 101 will be releasing in August/September, Wii Party U, Sonic Lost Worlds, and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD in October, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games in November, and Wii Fit U and Super Mario 3D World in December. This, of course, leaves out the slew of third party games being released on the Wii U as well as the Summer Update that is scheduled to come very soon.
Selling 92,000 copies in Japan in 2 days simultaneously moving 22,000 Wii U units within that time-frame, Pikmin 3 has managed do well both critically and on the charts despite not being Nintendo’s biggest project. Pikmin 3 and Wii U sales simultaneously only had a slow decline during the later weeks, but then came release time for North America where Pikmin 3 sold 114,828 units in the US on launch week making it the best launch for any Wii U title in the US since the launch of the Wii U. This brought the total amount of Pikmin 3 games sold to ~318,137 worldwide (154,704 Japan, 41,800 Europe, 114,828 US). The launch of Pikmin 3 also increased Wii U sales in the US by 79% to 16,349–the highest they\’ve been since the week ending March 30th.
