With an available Internet connection, players can now download the latest Super Smash Bros. for 3DS update off the Nintendo eShop. Update 1.0.4 is the apparent vehicle for a balance patch meant to adjust the abilities of the cast, while also removing some character-specific techniques and the universal technique DACUS (Dash Attack Cancelled Up-Smash).
According to the Super Smash Bros. for 3DS notifications:
\”This patch will adjust the game balance by refining the strengths of some fighters. It also includes various other gameplay fixes.\”
Smashers have been cooperating to put together patch notes for the update, as Nintendo does not offer official patch notes.
Over at Smashboards, users have been putting together a community patch list, which includes general gameplay fixes as well as individual character updates. Characters generally considered to be very strong, such as Rosalina & Luma and Sheik, have been given nerfs, while some buffs have hit Ike, Marth, Lucina, and more.
A very odd nerf hit Little Mac, who was revealed by Sakurai to be one of the least victorious characters in online play. The balance patch has nerfed Little Mac’s already horrendous recovery — his side B special, the Jolt Haymaker, has been reduced in range by a significant amount. This will certainly hurt Mac in a number of his already poor match-ups, many of which involve abusing Mac off-stage.
If you want to avoid the nerfs, good luck:
\”Local Wireless will not work if a player who has updated to 1.0.4 tries to battle a player with an older version.
Receiving patch 1.0.4 will disable playback of replays saved using older versions.
This patch is required for online play.
