NBA 2K18 recently launched on Switch. While the Switch version of the game has received a lot of praise due to it having all the content that’s also on the other platforms, there’s been some criticism too.

Some players have posted about their experiences with a very serious issue: save file corruption. A thread on Reddit was started a few days ago by user ‘UfoBelieve’ where they mentioned that upon starting the game with the Switch’s Airplane Mode turned on, an error message popped up saying that the game was “unable to connect to the 2K Servers”. This error somehow ended up corrupting the save file entirely, thus causing the player to have to start over from scratch. Another user responded in the same thread saying that he’s seen other complaints from folks on other consoles having the same issue.

It seems like this problem is in 2K18’s code and doesn’t have anything to do with the Switch itself. In any case, it’s a pretty big deal to lose save data. I remember a few years ago my younger brother dropped my external hard drive which was plugged into my Wii U. All of my data was lost. That was a crushing experience, so I can sympathize with the 2K18 players who have ran into this issue.

Hopefully a patch will be rolled out soon to take care of this. Until then, be very cautious.
