The popular board game Monopoly made its way to the Switch a few days ago in virtual form. While it’s neat to be able to take the game with you wherever you go in a less bulky way than the traditional box, there’s a notable problem: the Switch version has terrible load times.
Kotaku was the first to report on the issue, finding posts on various states from users who were complaining about the load times for Switch version of the game ranging from 5-10 minutes. Of course, this is absolutely absurd. You can essentially set-up the real-life Monopoly game in about the same length of time. Strangely enough, restarting the entire system would cancel out the bug, thus dramatically reducing the load times all the way down to a mere ten seconds.
Ubisoft is aware of this strange bug and is currently working on a patch. The developer didn’t mention exactly when the patch released, simply saying it will be delivered “as soon as possible”. Here’s the full statement:
“We are aware of a loading time issue with Monopoly for Nintendo Switch and our teams are working on a patch to resolve the issue as soon as possible. In the meantime, players should reboot their Nintendo Switch prior to starting Monopoly for Nintendo Switch. We will share an update when the issue has been resolved.”
It’s unclear what exactly could be causing this issue, but hopefully a patch will be released soon. When it’s totally fixed, you can grab Monopoly for Nintendo Switch for $40 either physically or via the eShop.
