Ken Watanabe, known for roles in The Last Samurai, Inception, and Godzilla, has joined the cast of Detective Pikachu in a role with the name Detective Yoshida, via The Hollywood Reporter.

Watanabe boards a cast already somewhat assembled. Ryan Reynolds will be the lead, with his co-stars being Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton. The film is directed by Rob Letterman and written by Alex Hirsch and Nicole Perlman.

Detective Pikachu is based on the Nintendo 3DS game that released in Japan in early 2016. The title will be making its western debut on the handheld system this March.

The Detective Pikachu film lands in theaters on May 10, 2019.
