A few weeks ago, there was a ‘leak‘ which turned out to be fake that showed off a mock-up of version 5.0 of the Switch firmware. While that leak was illegitimate, it does appear like the real deal actually is on the horizon.

Nintendo recently rolled out an update to the Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app on iOS/Android. The patch notes go over a few new features/improvements that have been made to the app. So, what does that have to do with the 5.0 firmware of the Switch? That’s because the patch notes for the Parental Controls app actually mention version 5.0, saying:

“In order to use some of these features, you will need to update the Nintendo Switch system version to 5.0.0 or later.”

Since this new patch for the Parental Controls app was recently released, it does indicate that this apparent 5.0 firmware for the Switch should also be rolled out soon. Hopefully, this turns out to be the case, as it would be rather disappointing if this were just a slip-up or typo. We should all know soon enough!
