Yesterday, Nintendo released a new firmware update for the Switch, bumping up the OS version to 5.0.0. Alongside the system OS update, a new update for the Joy-Con controllers has also been released. What makes this interesting is that Nintendo didn’t mention this controller update in the Switch 5.0.0 firmware patch notes; an odd thing to omit, if you ask me. Nevertheless, now you know!

Head on over to the ‘Controller’ tab over in the System Settings menu, hit the ‘Update Controllers’ button, and in just a few seconds, both Joy-Con controllers will be updated to their new versions. You do not need to have the controllers connected to the Switch console in order for them to update, which is pretty cool.

As to exactly what this update does is unknown, but there have been no reports of things going wrong after the update, so you shouldn’t have to worry.
