The end is nigh for the Wii Shop Channel. As of March 26th (at 1 PM Pacific), customers will no longer be able to add Wii Points or use a credit card on the virtual store. This means that you have just one week to make your final real purchases from the store, as the inability to add currency will only leave you with whatever amount you have left on your account (if you have anything at all).

While you will no longer be able to add anymore Wii Points as of next week, the Wii Shop Channel itself will remain open until January 30, 2019. It’s rather odd that Nintendo is keeping it open for nearly an additional year after stopping users from adding currency, but I guess the company has its reasons.

So, if there any WiiWare or Virtual Console titles you want, now’s the time to get them. Some retailers still carry the physical prepaid Wii Points cards, but they’ve become quite scarce after the system was discontinued a few years ago. If you have an accepted credit card, that might be your best shot.
