A few months ago, out of scenic nowhere, Spintires: MudRunner was revealed to be coming to Nintendo Switch. The off-road driving simulator has been available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One for nearly a year now, so this definitely counts as a late port. Still, considering the complexity of the game’s visuals and physics, it was genuinely surprising to see it announced to be coming to the hybrid platform at all.
The developers at Saber Interactive have not shared many details at all about the Switch version, but a small tidbit of info was just released via the studio’s July ‘Community Update’. This news update was centered around the game’s upcoming American Wilds expansion, but it included a small mention of the Nintendo Switch version of MudRunner as well:
So, to start – the name. MudRunner USA will actually be called American Wilds, and will be an expansion pack for Spintires: MudRunner, and will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch, at a to-be-announced date this fall.
Going by that blurb, it does appear that the Switch version of Spintires: MudRunner should see release either before or at the same time as the American Wilds expansion pack, which is slated for a launch at some point in Fall 2018. Hopefully, Saber will release some more precise details and some actual footage and screenshots soon.
