It’s now been 2 years since the launch of Pokémon GO, and the game still lacks a fan favorite feature: player vs. player (PvP) battles. This feature has been a staple in the mainline Pokémon games since the beginning, so its absence has been quite concerning to fans. Well, fans can rejoice as Niantic has finally addressed the situation.
Anne Beuttenmüller, Niantic’s head of product marketing, was asked about any new features planned for the game in an interview with Polish publication Gram. She had this to say:
“Now we are working on the PvP mode, which will soon appear.”
“We are constantly improving the elements that we have available in the game and the next thing that we want to add at the end of this year is the PvP mode.”
With the recent additions of trading, a friend system, and now this, it seems Niantic is focusing on big updates for Pokémon GO that should satisfy fans. Beuttenmüller also mentioned that they intend to add more Pokémon to the game in the future.
Will we see the return of the classic battle system with this update? For now, all we can do is speculate since Beuttenmüller did not comment on how PvP battles will function in the game.
Will this update get you back into Pokémon GO, or have you still been enjoying the game all summer? Let us know what you think down below–let the speculation begin!
