As a Nintendo fan, what’s the most outrageous Nintendo mod you can come up with and put into action? For one creative modder, it was to place a fully-functioning Wii inside of an Altoids tin. That’s right, imagine the hardware that powers the Wii console fitting inside of a pocket-sized tin complete with a two-inch screen and controls on the tin’s surface.
The modder, who operates under the handle of Shank on Twitter and in a blog on Bitbuilt, has completed the Wii-Altoids tin amalgamation according to recent postings on social media. Like Dr. Frankenstein, the modder was fully aware that the product was not ideal, practical, or perfect by any stretch. Shank wrote on their blog that the product dubbed “Kill Mii” was “not logical, comfortable, or practical. But it must be done… for the memes.”
The KillMii is finished! It's a fully functional Wii portable inside an actual Altoids tin. It runs hot, has a 10 minute battery life, and awful controls, but it's a real Wii inside (not an emulator.) It's the worst thing ever. pic.twitter.com/WrqiPmVHJB

The idea started over a year ago in April of 2017. In the original blog posting, Shank detailed the necessities for undertaking such an endeavor. The ingredients included an unpainted Altoids tin, a two-inch screen, tiny batteries capable of producing up to 15 minutes of battery life, speakers, a tiny cooling fan, controls, and a dash of “misery and self loathing” according to the comically written post. Apparently, the modder put a lot of effort into this product preparing various mockup designs of the final product in preparation for the build.
After much labor, Shank indicated on Twitter days ago that the product is finished. To quote Dr. Frankenstein, “It’s alive!” And like the monster of old, the Kill Mii is a far cry from anything ideal. Shank wrote, “The KillMii is finished! It’s a fully functional Wii portable inside an actual Altoids tin. It runs hot, has a 10 minute battery life, and awful controls, but it’s a real Wii inside (not an emulator.) It’s the worst thing ever.”
Despite the modder’s jokes at the expense of the creation, I think the end result is rather creative and intriguing. And let’s be honest, I haven’t played a Wii in years. Ten minutes is probably all I’d need! Check out the video below of the Kill Mii in action!
What do you think? It’s rather quite inventive. Would you like to give the Kill Mii a go? Maybe Shank should improve upon it so we can carry around pocket-sized Wii’s akin to the Gameboy! Or, perhaps, the idea is best left to this solitary, fun contraption. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

If a game is all about action, there’s a safe bet I’m playing it. I started laying waste to virtual worlds as a youngin’ on the ol’ Atari and haven’t stopped since.
