The colorful Metroidvania-style romps by Drinkbox Studios, Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition and Guacamelee! 2, are about to smash their way on to the Nintendo Switch. In fact, Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition can be yours now! The game launched today on the Nintendo eShop for $15 USD. Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition comes complete with DLC and added content. The sequel will hit the eShop in December.
What is Guacamelee exactly?
Glad you asked. Guacamelee is a non-linear Metroidvania platformer. The game is centered around Juan, an unfortunate agave farmer who meets his end at the hands of a sinister skeleton named Carlos Calaca. Juan is revived when he is given a luchador mask that transforms him into a powerful hero. Now, he can punch, kick, and slam his way through enemies to stop Calaca from enacting a sinister plan. The world is open and requires upgrading Juan’s abilities to access new areas as players progress. The game came highly rated upon its original release and adds the Nintendo Switch’s mobile capability to the experience.

Guacamelee! 2 also received rave reviews and expanded upon what the original started. Both games feature comical dialogue and addicting mechanics. And, while Guacamelee! STCE now includes four-player co-op, Guacamelee! 2 was the first to introduce the feature. Here are some thoughts from our sister site, PlayStation Enthusiast, in reviewing the title.
“Overall, Guacamelee! 2 feels like a beefed up version of the original game. And I don’t mean that in a derogatory sense, as the original Guacamelee! is a masterclass of game design. This sequel offers rock-solid platforming, funny dialogue, and addicting-as-ever Metroidvania mechanics. It’s challenging, rewarding and full of spunk. I recommend it as a must play for anyone who likes platformers, co-op titles, and of course, Metroidvania games.”
