We all know that the Switch has been a hot-seller for basically most of its shelf life so far. But, last month proved to be a particularly strong month not only for the Switch but for all the consoles in general.
According to Mat Piscatella from the NPD, the Switch, PS4 and Xbox One all sold more than 1.3 million units during the month of November 2018. This is notable due to it being the first time any of the platforms have sold more than a million units in the same November. This achievement goes to show that console gaming isn’t going anywhere anytime soon as some have predicted.
One potential explanation as to why this happened right now is most likely due to timing. The standard PS4 and Xbox One units were selling for as low as $200, bundled with games. PS4 Pro and Xbox One X bundles also got a price reduction. The Switch kept its $300 price-tag, but this is still a sweet spot between the standard PS4/Xbox One units and their premium variants. Not to mention that the Switch garnered mainstream attention since launch last year, and that effect hasn’t really worn off yet. All in all, there’s a lot of good things happening in the industry.
