Raf Grassetti must constantly keep himself busy between the artwork he does for a living to develop awesome games and the artwork he does in his spare time for fun. Diddy Kong has now joined his lineup as another update to his Super Smash Bros. Ultimate series of photorealistic characters from the game’s roster. Just look at him. Isn’t he cute? Just slap that shirt and hat on any little primate while snapping a photo and this will surely be the end result.
At this point, Grassetti has a whole catalog of characters from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Just last week, he gave us King K. Rool, Pikachu, and Ridley. And earlier in the year, he shared Samus, Mega Man, Bowser, Link, Fox McCloud, Mewtwo, and Sonic. All of these recreations might creep you out with their fleshy life-like designs. But it’s a bit of an understatement to simply say that Grassetti is a talented artist. It’s no wonder he was behind the Game of the Year epic, God of War. So, be sure to check out the rest of his artwork on his Instagram page.
What do you think of Grassetti’s artwork? Are there any other characters you’d love to see realized in this fashion? He may not do the whole roster of 74 characters, but he had commented on social media that he’s wanting to do more. If I had to pick, personally, I’d love to see either of the Mario Bros. designed in this fashion. The human characters are among the most fascinating (or human-ish in Link’s case). Accountant by day, video games enthusiast by night. Somewhere in between all of that, I’m a husband, dad, and generally a giant man-child, too. If a game is all about action, there’s a safe bet I’m playing it. I started laying waste to virtual worlds as a youngin’ on the ol’ Atari and haven’t stopped since.
