Success Corporation has settled on a release date for Umihara Kawase Fresh, and also dropped the bombshell that it’ll be coming out worldwide!
An update on the official website for Umihara Kawase Fresh confirmed that Success Corporation plans to launch the game on April 25, 2019. There will also be both a physical and digital version of the game available in Japan. While the update stated that the worldwide release for Umihara Kawase Fresh will coincide with the Japanese date, they didn’t confirm if other regions will get a physical release.
If you’re unfamiliar, the Umihara Kawase games are side-scrolling platformers where you control a budding Japanese sushi chef by the same name. These games are iconic not just for their bizarre and charming visuals, but also for the unique rope-swinging mechanics that are at the core of each game.
Umihara Kawase Fresh is set to be a pretty big change for the series, though. The new game ditches the usual stage-progression of past games for a new quest system. Because of this, it takes place in a large overworld not unlike something you’d see in a Metroid or Castlevania game. There’s also a Hunger and Thirst system in the new game, as well as a new playable character named Cotton.
