Mario Kart Tour delayed summer 2019 Mario Kart mobile

The closer a game gets to its release date without there being any new news, the more likely it is that the game is about to be delayed. Sure enough, Mario Kart Tour, which was originally slated to release for mobile devices by March, has now been delayed to summer 2019. This news comes via Nintendo Japan’s Twitter and also the official Mario Kart Facebook page.

According to Facebook, the game has been delayed “to deliver the best possible Mario Kart experience for mobile.” The Twitter post says something similar, except it also adds that the delay is to “expand the service content after delivery.” That’s ambiguous, but it almost certainly has to do with microtransactions and creating proper incentives to get players to keep spending money on the game.

Afterward a wayward start with Miitomo and Super Mario Run, Nintendo is gradually finding its place in mobile. They raked in $348 million last year from mobile, after all. So I’m going to remain cautiously optimistic about Mario Kart Tour. What about you? Let us know if you’re still excited for the game, or if you were never interested in the first place.
