Promising news is piling up. Square Enix recently trademarked the names Final Fantasy Adventure, Mystic Quest, and Secret of Mana for Europe, and now they have trademarked Final Fantasy Adventure and Secret of Mana in the U.S. too!
Final Fantasy Adventure and Secret of Mana are the first and second titles respectively in the Seiken Densetsu series, known as the Mana series internationally. Back in June 2017, Square Enix released Seiken Densetsu Collection for Nintendo Switch in Japan, containing these two titles and Seiken Densetsu 3, which only ever released for the Japanese Super Famicom.
These new trademarks could mean the collection is finally coming to North America and Europe, and old Squaresoft fans (like me) would be ecstatic to see Seiken Densetsu 3 localized at last. However, I also wouldn’t be surprised at all if we only received a neutered collection containing just the first two titles. If so, the title would lose some value since Secret of Mana is featured in the SNES Classic, and Final Fantasy Adventure has been remade twice before — once as Sword of Mana on Game Boy Advance, and again as Adventures of Mana on PlayStation Vita and mobile devices.
I’ll cross my fingers even harder for localized Seiken Densetsu 3.
