Although we have known about Kano and Cassie Cage being a part of the Mortal Kombat 11 roster for some time now, we got our first real taste of them both today.
Kano returns as a staple in the franchise with his knives, dirty moves, and Terminator faceplate. Cassie comes back after her debut in MKX as the perfect fusion of her parents Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage. But how do they play this time around? Let’s get our first real look in the trailer below.
The Kombat Kid
We’ll take a look at Cassie first since this is technically her trailer. Her moves are already quite different than how it was before. Cassie was described during today’s Kombat Kast as a “good all-around character” with an answer for any situation. This essentially makes her the jack-of-all-trades, master of none choice in Mortal Kombat 11.
One of the first differences fans will notice is how Cassie now has a drone with her. This seemed to be carried over from one of Sonya Blade’s variations in MKX, but with a flair of Cage. The drone can be used to fly away or move in on an opponent. Gunshots can be ricocheted off of it. And it can even be controlled remotely which gives leaves Cassie open to attack in favor of some good zoning tools.
Cassie is one of the few characters of whom we’ve seen both Fatalities. The first one is an instant fan favorite where she kicks your heart out, sticks her hands inside your open chest, and forms her hand in the shape of a heart. It’s both cute and disgusting at the same time. The other has her plug you with gunshots before kicking your nuts so hard that your skull and spine pops out. Those are some serious boots!
The Merciless Mercenary
No matter how you personally feel about Kano, it’s good to have a scummy Earthrealmer to balance out the Mortal Kombat 11 roster. And he’s back in a big way with all the cheap tactics in play.
Kano returns as a mixup monster up close. His assortment of overhead moves, low attacks, and grabs can turn a fight against him into a nightmare. Throwing knives and ball attacks return along with the command grabs he had in MKX. Kano can also add in his laser eye as another projectile, and control space with a throw molotov cocktail and gravity net which prevents jumping.
The Black Dragon leader also has a badass Fatal Blow utilizing knives, boots, and boot knives. You can’t say he’s not resourceful! And his Fatality revealed is simple, but brutal. It’s especially terrifying when the camera goes to the victim’s perspective.
Who are you most excited to try out? Who else would you like to see in the roster? Let us know in the comments!
