At SXSW Gaming 2019, Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka confirmed that the next big installment in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is in development. Zero details whatsoever were given about the game, but for the hardcore fanbase that Sonic has, it probably doesn’t even matter. Just knowing a game is being made and that it isn’t only spinoffs receiving the attention is good enough.
Lately, Sonic Mania Plus has been a hit among new and old fans, though that game wasn’t made by Sonic Team. The last Sonic Team game was Sonic Forces, which sold well but didn’t do well critically. The last unanimously celebrated Sonic Team game in the series was Sonic Generations from back in 2011(!). But I personally have a big soft spot for Sonic Lost World on Wii U. I think it ranks among the most underrated games I ever played.
What are you hoping to see in this mysterious new Sonic the Hedgehog title? (Cue up “A good game!” jokes.) Let us know!
