The Switch recently hit the two-year mark of its lifecycle, and its trend of strong sales has yet to truly slow down. Rather, the system has consistently remained high in the charts all over the world. The NPD Group (the firm responsible for tracking gaming hardware and software sales in the US) recently published their report for February 2019.
According to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella, the Nintendo Switch turned out to be the best-selling console throughout the month. Exact numbers have not been provided, though Piscatella also confirmed that the Switch also generated the highest number of dollar sales. Considering that the PS4 and Xbox One have higher-priced SKUs than the Switch (being the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X), this is impressive as it goes to show that there were far more people buying the $299 Switch throughout the month.
This has also been Nintendo’s best February in terms of hardware dollar sales since 2011 when the Wii was still the company’s main platform and the 3DS was but a newborn.
Considering that the Switch also took the top spot in the January NPD, that means (for now) it’s been the highest-selling system of the year in the US. But, of course, 2019 is still young and there’s no telling how the rest of the year will pan out. Nevertheless, this is a strong start for the Switch as it begins to become more and more of an established platform.
