In typical Netherrealm fashion, more kombatants have been added to the ever-expanding Mortal Kombat 11 roster. Two more have been announced, though, one is not part of the initial launch roster. The original villain, Shang Tsung, will be returning as a DLC character. In a posting from Ed Boon on social media, Shang Tsung will also be the guide in the Krypt. For those unaware of traditional Mortal Kombat practices, the Krypt is where players can unlock collectibles, artwork, music, and a myriad of content from completing fights and challenges.
There’s something else very special about Shang Tsung’s involvement in Mortal Kombat 11, however. He will be voiced by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa. If you’re scratchin’ your noggin, then let me bring you up to speed. This is the actor who portrayed Shang Tsung in the 1995 film, Mortal Kombat. The original movie adaptation is largely regarded as a classic by fans to this day. But, we won’t speak of its sequel. Tagawa is iconic for the role of Shang Tsung. So, the actor taking part in the upcoming game is pretty rad.

Noob Saibot is also joining the roster. The former Sub-Zero turned wraith is back with a vengeance. Noob Saibot will, in fact, join the launch roster, and he’ll be reigning down destruction with shadowy void-like abilities. Because he is part of the launch roster, he did come complete with a trailer.
NFSW Warning: This video contains graphic violence — as one would expect from Mortal Kombat!
Mortal Kombat 11 is shaping up nicely and looks thoroughly grotesque. Sometimes I wonder how these games can manage to get any bloodier, but Netherrealm continues to outdo themselves.
Kotal Kahn also made the roster, recently. In case you missed it, be sure to check out his trailer below. Although, if you were a fan of Kotal Kahn and rooting for the guy, you might want to turn the other way. Oddly, Netherrealm saw to it that Kotal Kahn gets destroyed in his own announcement trailer. Poor guy. I think he deserves a little better than that, Netherrealm! I’m sure he’ll be a wicked addition to the roster after first debuting in Mortal Kombat X.
What do you think of Noob Saibot and Shang Tsung as playable characters in MK11. Were these characters who hoped to see in the arena? Are there any other MK fighters who hope will eventually be announced? Let us know what your thoughts are on all things Mortal Kombat in the comments section below!
Accountant by day, video games enthusiast by night. Somewhere in between all of that, I’m a husband, dad, and generally a giant man-child, too. If a game is all about action, there’s a safe bet I’m playing it. I started laying waste to virtual worlds as a youngin’ on the ol’ Atari and haven’t stopped since.
