Atlus Naoto Hiraoka Persona 5 S Switch Shin Megami Tensei V Joker Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Naoto Hiraoka, former Atlus CEO and still a member of the board of directors for Atlus USA and Sega of America, was interviewed by foreign news site Bahamut at Taiwan Game Show 2019. The benevolent forces at Reddit have translated the parts of the interview pertinent to Nintendo Switch. Hiraoka discussed Joker in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the development of Shin Megami Tensei V, and the possibility of Persona 5 on Switch.

On the subject of Joker, his inclusion in Ultimate was pretty straightforward: Sakurai likes Persona 5 a lot, Hiraoka likes Super Smash Bros. Ultimate a lot, and so the desire for Joker in the game was mutual and swift.

As for the possibility of Persona 5 itself on Switch, Hiraoka naturally is unable to give specific details, but he then adds, “Nintendo Switch is a very charismatic console.” Interesting.

And lastly, about the highly demanded but seldom seen Shin Megami Tensei V, Hiraoka says the game is continuing with its development. But essentially, it’s taking a long time because Atlus is working through the challenges of learning the intricacies of a new console. This is all to be expected, and I’m sure when we finally get our hands on the game that it’ll be awesome.

What do you make of these tidbits? Anything surprising to you? Personally, I’m feeling awfully optimistic about that enigmatic “charismatic console” comment.
