Reggie’s tweets are like a sad song on repeat after a breakup

I’ve been through breakups, heck, even a divorce. The part that always got me the most after the split was when you hit the play button while the most gut-wrenching tunes play out on your device of choice. While the departure of Reggie Fils-Aime doesn’t necessarily come close to the hardships and feelings that accompany a departure from a loved one, it’s still quite sad to see him pack up his former Nintendo of America presidential office while it happens on social media.

    Reggie fils-a-me with sadness

I think one of the reasons Reggie has been such a relatable face for Nintendo is the fact that he’s not afraid to be human. There were many times where Fils-Aime was completely okay with laughing at himself, embracing the name of the “Regginator.” A framed photo still hanging on the wall of his mostly bare office displays the nickname with pride.

I’ve been following along as he posts images from his first name badge from E3 2004. This was the show where he took the stage to utter his now famous line, “My name is Reggie. I’m about kicking ass, I’m about taking names, and we’re about making games.”

    Wii will miss you

It’s pretty surreal to see someone that has been synonymous with the Nintendo brand pack up his things and ready his departure from the company. Even him putting on his giant Reggie Mii head for one last time hit me right in the feels. I’m sure that his newly created Twitter account that has the user name “@Reggie” will be put to good use in the future.

As for now, it seems that many share some of the same sentiments in the comments as we watch an icon as he tours his office one last time. Most definitely, this marks an end to an era.

What are you going to miss most about Reggie Fils-Aime? I guess I’ll leave you with the most cliche breakup quote possible, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”
