Shadows of Adam for Nintendo Switch retro modern JRPG May release Something Classic Games

It’s no secret around here that I love JRPGs and classic pixel art. So the upcoming Shadows of Adam by Something Classic Games checks all of my boxes with a vicious stabbing motion that leaves the whole piece of paper just ripped to shreds. Goodness, I am ready to play this thing when it releases on May 3 for Nintendo Switch. But if you preorder on the Nintendo Switch eShop starting April 26, you will get a 10 percent discount.

Shadows of Adam is a role-playing game that employs modern design ideas but was inspired by classic ’90s JRPGs. The developers claims the game has no random encounters, sterile dungeons, or mindless dialogue; rather, they tried to make every moment of the game into something thoughtful and artistic. Considering the game has a 10-12-hour length as opposed to the usual 40+ hours we’re used to seeing from the genre, I’m willing to give Something Classic Games the benefit of the doubt that they’re not just blowing hot air. Plus, the game lets you save anywhere, which is a big bonus — especially on Switch.

If the Switch teaser above isn’t enough, get a load of some more screenshots below. Some parts, especially the enemy sprites, remind me of Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals on SNES, which is a pretty big compliment.

So, it’s pretty clear by now what I think of Shadows of Adam. Let me know if you share the enthusiasm!
