Available right now, players can snag paid DLC for the surprise Nintendo Switch Online exclusive-hit that offers two new modes. The good news for folks who enjoy gaming on the go is that both modes can be played offline. The “Big Block” DLC enables players to play Tetris 99 with 98 CPU combatants. Additionally, a Marathon mode will be added that simply sees the player clearing as many lines as possible — a more traditional Tetris affair. Aside from these two modes, Nintendo has stated that more modes are coming to the title at a later date. The Big Block DLC can be yours for $9.99.

The third Tetris 99 Maximus Cup
Also, Nintendo has announced the third Maximus Cup. The online event will run from May 17-19. Similar to the previous events, players will be awarded points for each match that is played during this time, whether they win or lose. Of course, the better your performance is in the match, the more points you will receive. Players who achieve 100 points during the course of the Maximus Cup will gain access to an in-game theme inspired by the original Tetris on Game Boy.
Remember, while you might be able to play Tetris 99 with the Big Block DLC offline and without a Nintendo Switch Online membership, the membership is required for online play in order to participate in this event. So, don’t miss out on your opportunity to snag the retro theme!
The ongoing support for Tetris 99 is rather exciting. Clearly, Nintendo has found success with the title ever since it’s debut surprised us during a Nintendo Direct earlier this year. Countless players have engaged in what has become known as the “battle royale of Tetris.”
