dream E3 announcements: Chrono Break

E3 is almost exactly one month away. Now is the time of year that fans start drawing pentagrams on the floor and performing black magic rituals in the hopes that a new game in their favorite franchise will be announced. (I’m pretty sure Castlevania fans do that at least.) So this seems like a good time to talk about our dream E3 announcements!

For me, being a JRPG junkie, my dream E3 announcement is inevitably the long-desired Chrono Break. After all, Chrono Trigger was a masterpiece, and Chrono Cross was surprisingly awesome too in a different way. In a perfect world, a third Chrono title would reunite director/writer Yoshinori Kitase, composer Yasunori Mitsuda, artist Akira Toriyama, writer Yuji Horii, and (It’s a perfect world!) designer Hironobu Sakaguchi. The dream team reborn to produce a new time-and-space-bending adventure with graphics akin to Dragon Quest XI and an orchestral soundtrack.

Not only would it just be a perfect announcement, but I’m pretty sure a nerd version of Mardi Gras would break out across the whole planet. Just parades of jolly geeks blaring “Robo’s Theme” through boom boxes from Barcelona to Siberia. Square Enix would have enough good will to go around to last the next decade. They could turn Final Fantasy into a rhythm-based FPS and we’d give them a free pass. That’s the power of Chrono Break, Square!

So that’s the E3 announcement I’d kill for. Though Phantasy Star V on Nintendo Switch would be a close second place. And honestly, a genuinely turn-based Final Fantasy XVI would be enough to make me happy too. I just really love turn-based JRPGs, folks!

Now we want to hear from you! What is your dream E3 announcement? Tell us in the comments below!
