Nintendo Showdown breath of the wild super mario odyssey

Welcome to Nintendo Showdown! This is a new weekly series at Nintendo Enthusiast, and it requires some audience participation. Every week we’ll compare two (or more) Nintendo games and pit them against each other in a showdown. Your votes decide the winner, so choose wisely. For our first matchup, we’ve got two critically acclaimed Nintendo Switch games. It’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild vs. Super Mario Odyssey!

Two all-time greats

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild helped Switch get off to a hot start. This launch title challenged the traditions of the Zelda formula and embraced some modern RPG mechanics. It also featured the most open world since the first game in the franchise. It was a bold shift away from games like Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword, but it paid off in a big way. Millions fell in love with all that Hyrule had to offer. Not to mention, it’s just plain fun to mess around with that physics engine! Breath of the Wild became an instant classic and nabbed numerous Game of the Year awards. It’s already the highest-selling Zelda game of all time.

Super Mario Odyssey helped Switch finish 2017 out just as strong as it started. Mario‘s latest 3D adventure took everything Nintendo fans loved about 1990’s 3D platformers and made it better. It provided the exact experience many fans had been craving for over a decade. Memorable levels, beautiful graphics, countless costumes and collectibles, and top-notch platforming challenges made it a must-have. By the end of the year, it was neck and neck with Breath of the Wild for Game of the Year honors.

Both games are critically acclaimed masterpieces and top-sellers, but only one can win the Nintendo Showdown. Which game is better? Cast your vote and help us decide!
