Square Enix partners with Penguin for English manga, novels, art books

Penguin Random House is a giant of the English book publishing world, and Square Enix is that Japanese company that publishes *checks notes* something called Final Fantasy? Is that a thing? Anyway, the two have announced a team-up. They are entering into a multi-year sales and distribution agreement to publish English-language manga, novels, and art books beginning this fall.

Square Enix actually publishes books and magazines already, so this partnership extends their reach in a big way. They will be kicking things off with Penguin with a few properties: There will be the novel Final Fantasy XV: The Dawn of the Future, a new story in the Final Fantasy XV universe. There will also be the Hi Score Girl manga (which got that dope Netflix anime adaptation that has retro video game footage all over it), comedy manga A Man and His Cat, and the complete edition of Soul Eater manga.

Square Enix seems to have a wide and random catalogue of properties to draw upon, so this could be a pretty fun partnership. For instance, it would be terrific to get an official translation of Xenogears Perfect Works ~The Real Thing~ after all these years. Though that Flickr translation is pretty darn great.
