Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order will be hitting the Switch on July 13. The roster has already shown off a lot of heavy hitters from the Avengers, the Defenders, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and even the Inhumans. In the newest trailer, Team Ninja decided to spotlight one of Marvel’s most beloved-yet-neglected teams: the X-Men.
The trailer reveals that Magneto manages to get ahold of one of the Infinity Stones. Ready to usher in “a new era for mutant-kind,” Magneto forms a new Brotherhood of Mutants with Juggernaut and Mystique. Magneto’s goals put him at odds with the titular Black Order. Thus, despite his antagonistic leanings, Magneto decides to form an alliance with the Avengers.
Team Ninja already announced Wolverine and Storm, but the new trailer reveals that Nightcrawler, Psylocke, and Magneto will all join in on the fun as playable characters. Deadpool was also revealed in the trailer, despite not technically being a mutant. While Beast appeared in the trailer and Mystique and Juggernaut show up as bosses, it is currently unknown if they will be playable. We also see a portrait of Colossus and Cyclops, but nothing indicates that they themselves will be in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.
Back from X-tinction
In recent years, Marvel has been less-than-willing to show off the X-Men due to movie licensing issues. While Disney owned the movie rights to most Marvel characters, the X-Men found themselves owned by Fox. This is commonly believed to be the reason no X-Men characters were included in Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, despite Storm, Magneto, and Sentinel’s status as some of the most beloved characters in the franchise. X-Men characters were very rarely shown off in Disney-led Marvel productions, if at all. Now that Disney owns Fox, it appears that Marvel is now ready to bring the X-Men back to their former glory.
Fledgling Young Adult author and rabid Princess Peach fanboy. My favorite Nintendo games are Pokémon, Super Smash Bros, and Fire Emblem. I claim to be good at first-person shooters, but that’s a dirty lie.
