Hiro Matsuoka, Toho, joins Pokémon board of directors

    Hiro Matsuoka of Toho will be joining The Pokémon Company’s board of directors in the coming days. The announcement was made at the official Pokémon press conference live-streamed from Tokyo, Japan.

    On stage, Matsuoka compared the success of the recent Detective Pikachu to that of Godzilla. He also briefly teased future film announcements. 

    Given the popularity of Detective Pikachu, The Pokemon Company undoubtedly is looking to create more films than before. Matsuoka’s addition signifies a company shift that emphasizes creating mainstream films akin to Detective Pikachu. Matsuoka joining the Pokémon board of directors only proves the seriousness of their endeavor. 

    Although it wasn’t discussed during the press conference, a Detective Pikachu sequel was confirmed months ago.
