Marvel talks possibility of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate crossover

    6

With Super Smash Bros. Ultimate truly the most mainstream franchise installment, a Marvel character wouldn’t seem too out of place on the roster. The merging of the franchises isn’t likely, though, with Sakurai’s criteria for Smash Bros. characters being so strict. Marvel Games VP and Creative Director, Bill Rosemann, still showed interest in the potential crossover.

“Well I mean, I can imagine anything,” Rosemann said in a recent Game Informer interview. “Hawkeye standing next to Link, and both shooting some arrows… I mean anything could happen, but I’m not the person that makes decisions such as that,” he added.

It doesn’t mean a whole lot, but it’s still great to see that one end of the conversation lends the idea some credence. Hawkeye makes sense for Smash Bros. Ultimate, too. I imagine he’d be a long-range fighter with a pretty diverse array of throws, kicks, punches, and arrows. But Hawkeye is just one of many Marvel heroes or villains that would mesh well with the Smash Bros. catalog of fighters.

    Spider-Man for Smash

I’ve always thought Spider-Man would be perfect for the series. Similar to the character’s Marvel vs. Capcom moveset, the utilization of web-slinging and close-range, quick combat, would translate well to the Smash style. Slinging webs could also account for Spider-Man’s shielding, dodging, and Final Smash. Spidey’s fast, not too powerful, and a recognizable face perfect for the franchise.
