It’s an awesome time to be a Metroidvania fan on Switch! Nintendo hasn’t put out a new Metroid for about two years, and that was a remake. However, indie devs have been filling in that gap with games inspired by the classic franchise. We recently reviewed Gato Roboto, and Timespinner drops on Switch today. Adding to the lineup, publisher Team17 just revealed that Blasphemous is also coming to Switch soon.
Developed by The Game Kitchen (The Last Door), Blasphemous offers a dark and brutal take on the genre. The game promises “fast-paced, skilled combat” that can be upgraded and customized via a skill tree. Use those skills to battle your way through “a forsaken world” full of nightmarish enemies and unlock its secrets. You can check out the announcement trailer below!
A foul curse has fallen upon the land of Cvstodia and all its inhabitants – it is simply known as The Miracle.
Play as The Penitent One – a sole survivor of the massacre of the ‘Silent Sorrow’. Trapped in an endless cycle of death and rebirth, it’s down to you to free the world from this terrible fate and reach the origin of your anguish.
Explore this nightmarish world of twisted religion and discover its many secrets hidden deep inside. Use devastating combos and brutal executions to smite the hordes of grotesque monsters and titanic bosses, all ready to rip you limb from limb. Locate and equip relics, rosary beads, and prayers that call on the powers of the heavens to aid you in your quest to break your eternal damnation.
Blasphemous doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s “coming soon.” Besides Switch, it’s also coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. You can currently add it to your wishlist on the latter platform. Will you take on the challenges that await, fellow Metroidvania fans?
