nintendo franchise fire emblem dark souls

Today’s news that Darksiders Genesis will be a top-down Diablo-style RPG instead of a direct series sequel had us thinking about the general idea of genre-swapping spin-offs, specifically those that feature Nintendo properties.

Some examples out of many from Nintendo’s own past few generations include the RTS Advance Wars spin-off Battalion Wars (which desperately needs a revival), Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, and the hack-and-slash Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors. Nintendo is certainly no stranger to experimental outings that bend what gamers have come to assume about their properties. With this in mind, I ask you all: What Nintendo franchise do you want to see reimagined in a new genre?

For me, I would like to see Fire Emblem take another go at action-packed gameplay. An action-packed Fire Emblem game had been a popular request before Fire Emblem Warriors, but instead of grindy Musou gameplay, I want an action RPG in the same vein as Dark Souls. Everything that comes in a typical Souls-like game would be a great fit for an action-oriented Fire Emblem, especially the strategic, high-stakes combat. I also think that traditional Fire Emblem elements like perma-death and the colorful stories and battlefields would translate well into this sort of game. Perhaps some sort of strategic battlefield command could be implemented to keep this theoretical spin-off true to the series.

A Fire Emblem x Dark Souls title has been a want of mine for a while, but what about you all? What pipe dream Nintendo franchise spin-off ideas do you have kicking around in your head?
