In a surprise move, a somewhat obscure Sega franchise is getting a comeback thanks to the Switch. During today’s E3 2019 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced that Panzer Dragoon will return to consoles later this year.
Panzer Dragoon is an on-rails shooter not unlike the Star Fox games. Players ride on the backs of dragons as they soar through the skies and fight off legions of enemies. It was originally released for the Sega Saturn. The series was never exactly a big hit in the West, much like most on-rails shooters. It’s been almost two decades since Panzer Dragoon‘s last game, which was released for the Xbox back in 2002. One title, Panzer Dragoon Saga, is so rare that it yields a pretty penny on eBay.
The revival of the franchise here gives a lot of hope to the future of the series. And considering the beautiful visuals we’re in for with this remake, it looks like Forever Entertainment is putting a lot of love in this title.
While no exact release date is set, expect to get your hands on it this winter.
Fledgling Young Adult author and rabid Princess Peach fanboy. My favorite Nintendo games are Pokémon, Super Smash Bros, and Fire Emblem. I claim to be good at first-person shooters, but that’s a dirty lie.
