LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the best upcoming Star Wars title

E3 2019 can be a place of surprises. I managed to tag along with a buddy for a meeting with TT Games. Upon entering the press area, it became clear we were about to witness a gameplay presentation for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. My heart skipped a beat because I am a huge fan of the series. (Please note: this presentation did not allow any photos or video, but we did receive assets.)

In a galaxy far, far away

The demonstration began with a title screen that displayed all nine films — yes, including The Rise of Skywalker. The presenter then dropped a bomb I was not expecting: Every single adventure is being built from scratch. No remasters, no ports. Naturally, this made me think about the huge amount of work that must be required to build a game like this. It showed within the first few minutes of gameplay.

We got a glimpse of Return of Jedi for our viewing appointment. The demo started in space with a battle involving the Millennium Falcon, a Star Destroyer, and multiple TIE fighters. Afterward, the presenter showed us we could choose between multiple areas to land on Tatooine. Every planet will have three locations from which to choose.

    Scruffy-looking nerf herders

Lando in disguise was the main character used to traverse Tatooine, but players can swap out others with the click of a button. The title utilizes a zoomed out camera display to showcase the scale of the environments. Every single object is made out of LEGO, which is impressive. Most impressive.

The demo had our PC run around some iconic places, such as Luke’s home and the sarlacc pit. Interestingly, Luke’s house had crates of blue milk lying around instead of LEGO Skeleton Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. Hopefully, this mistake will be rectified in the full release.

    Collectibles and missions galore

While Gold Bricks were the previous collectibles found in prior LEGO Star Wars games, The Skywalker Saga employs a new currency: Kyber Bricks. You must do specific actions to earn them, like Force throwing a ball into a makeshift goal or getting dangerously close to the sarlaac pit. I adore Easter eggs like these that reward you for mucking around the world.

In addition, The Skywalker Saga has a neat way of handling missions. Certain objectives require a specific character to unlock. For example, someone like Luke cannot speak to a service droid. However, C-3PO is a master of six million languages, so he can converse and accept sidequests from any robotic NPCs.

The possibility of Skywalker Saga being bad is three thousand seven hundred and twenty to one

In conclusion, The Skywalker Saga is breathtaking. The fact that every single movie is being represented with no ports of previous titles is a monumental achievement by the developers. The game’s combat is also overhauled to the point that every character can combo and juggle enemies in the air, which keeps fights fresh and engaging.
