During last month’s Pokémon press conference, we learned that Game Freak is teaming up with DeNA. The two are partnering to create a new mobile game called Pokémon Masters, and it features tons of fan-favorite trainers. We learned very little in the initial teaser, but today we received a major update! An extensive new trailer showed off tons of familiar faces and gave us a good look at the game’s real-time battles. You can check it out by clicking below!
Pokémon Masters trailer
Welcome to Pasio
The Pokémon Masters trailer kicks off with a brief refresher on the relationships between Pokémon and their trainers. It also highlights the facts that trainers come from different backgrounds and have their own preferred looks and styles. Then we’re treated to a cinematic showing off some of the franchise’s popular trainers. Unfortunately, these beautiful, anime-style graphics are not real gameplay footage.
Game Freak executive and art director Ken Sugimori came up with the idea for Pokémon Masters. He wanted to create an experience where you can befriend Pokémon and trainers alike. This will add “new depth” to the world of Pokémon. In particular, this game takes place on the artificial island of Pasio. Trainers from all over have gathered to take on the Pokémon Masters League.
Each trainer has a single Pokémon, and the two make up a “sync pair.” You can meet and team up with famous trainers from the series’ history. Form teams of three sync pairs to take on other trainers and earn badges. Assemble the dream team and become the Champion!
The biggest gameplay change in Pokémon Masters is that battles happen in real time. A move gauge fills up as time passes, and you can select a move as soon as it’s full. You can also launch special “sync moves” to spice up the battle. Trainers have their own moves too! You can use a Trainer Move to do things like healing Pokémon and boosting their stats.
Game Freak and DeNA are aiming to make a game that anyone can pick up and enjoy. Whether you’re a new fan or a veteran, you can enjoy Pokémon battles with popular trainers on your phone at any time. Pokémon Masters will release this summer.
