Datamine reveals tons of new Crash Team Racing characters

Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled was released a few weeks ago to rave reviews. Andrew Rockett made note of its wonderful track designs and great single player content. To keep the hype train rolling, developer Beenox is releasing waves of DLC in the forms of Grand Prix tournaments to unlock new characters. After the update to prepare for the first Grand Prix, dataminers have found a huge number of characters could potentially be on their way.

Presently, only nine post-launch characters are officially confirmed. The current tournament, the Nitro Tour Grand Prix, allows players to unlock Crash’s (ex?)girlfriend Tawna and the four flag girls from the original Crash Team Racing, Ami, Megumi, Liz, and Isabella. The Back in Time Grand Prix will include Baby T and baby versions of Crash and Coco. After that, Spyro the Dragon will join the fold in the Spyro and Friends Grand Prix.

Who’s on the way to Crash Team Racing?

The datamine revealed 10 more Crash Bandicoot characters are in the game’s code, likely meaning that they will be joining Crash Team Racing in future Grands Prix:

  • Nina Cortex
  • Baby Cortex
  • Willie Wumpa Cheeks
  • Pasadena O’Possum
  • Emperor Velo
  • Baby N. Tropy
  • Chick
  • Stew
  • Rilla Roo
  • Von Clutch

Additionally, four characters from the Spyro the Dragon series were found in the datamine:

  • Sorceress
  • Gnasty Gnorc
  • Ripto
  • Hunter

It’s likely that the Spyro the Dragon characters will join Spyro in the Spyro and Friends Grand Prix and Baby Cortex and N. Tropy will join the other babies in the Back in Time Grand Prix. This means that each Crash Team Racing Grand Prix will have five characters to unlock. While Bennox previously said that there are only plans for three Grands Prix, the number of other characters implies that there may be one or two more Grands Prix down the line. However, nothing is officially announced as of yet, so we will have to wait and see when these characters are heading our way.
