Switch Lite system transfer

Following today’s announcement of the Switch Lite, a sleeker, budget-friendly, portable-only Switch console, many potential buyers are wondering whether games and save files from their OG Switch can be transferred seamlessly to the Switch Lite. While this sort of function seems a no-brainer, many Switch-owners are well aware that you absolutely cannot take these features for granted with Nintendo. Worried players can relax, for now: in an interview with CNET, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser affirmed that system transfers will be possible to some degree, with more details to come down the line.

Bowser did not give a wealth of detail, only stating, “Yes, you will have the ability to transfer between devices, your gameplay experiences. More to come on there, but that is the intention.” It remains to be seen whether Bowser refers to simple one-time system transfers or fully-accessible cloud saves that allow for swapping between multiple systems with ease.

Nintendo is not exactly famous for their user-friendliness when it comes to cloud saves and system transfers, so if easy gameplay transitions between consoles will be a factor in whether or not you buy a Switch Lite, I recommend waiting a bit longer before preordering, even if it is a pretty snazzy-looking handheld.
