Vote for the Best EarthBound game
A series of cult classics
The EarthBound franchise, known as Mother in Japan, has dealt with many obstacles. For decades, only the second game was officially released anywhere outside of Japan. Thankfully, Nintendo finally gave new life to the original Mother, re-releasing it as EarthBound Beginnings in 2015. Dedicated fans are still waiting for Nintendo to localize Mother 3. At this point, there seems to be little hope left. However, many have downloaded and played a fan-made translation of the Japanese game. The fact that these games are popular despite their extremely limited availability is a testament to their quality.
EarthBound Beginnings was a masterpiece on NES. Its wacky dialogue and unique weapons and enemies helps it stand out from countless other RPGs on the console. EarthBound on SNES continued that trend, but offered a bigger world, more vibrant graphics, and a more fleshed out and emotional story. Mother 3 on Game Boy Advance retained the charm of its predecessors while evolving the battle system. It also introduced a new chapter-based story format, giving more characters time to shine in the spotlight.
