Hero release date Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 4.0 yggdrasil's altar

Finally, we know when the Hero from Dragon Quest is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate — today! In a pseudo-but-not-quite live demo of how the Hero plays in the game, Masahiro Sakurai revealed that the Hero releases on July 30, along with his level, Yggdrasil’s Altar. The level comes from Dragon Quest XI S. It has floating platforms and a giant tree (presumably the Yggdrasil in Yggdrasil’s Altar). There are even treasure chests! Some of the chests give items, but some of them are dangerous Mimic monsters. Defeating a Mimic will also yield an item though. As usual, the level has numerous nods to its original series, like Slimes and very rare Liquid Metal Slimes.

Since Dragon Quest has such an awesome selection of tracks to choose from, Sakurai went with his usual approach of “ehhhh let’s just do a little of everything” and grabbed a selection of series songs to correspond with each hero. You can check that out below.

There are additionally Dragon Quest-themed spirit boards to check out. In any case, for a full breakdown of how the Hero works in combat, or if you just like to hear Sakurai’s ramblings translated into English, be sure to watch the full 21 1/2-minute below! Incidentally, Sakurai says the Hero has the most abilities of anyone in the game. Appropriate, I think! His most hilarious ability is Kamikazee, which literally kills him outright in order to do some big damage. I… I think most people will not use that move.

It doesn’t seem like the Hero and version 4.0 are live in the game quite yet (perhaps in the evening), but check back soon for his formal release.
