Every Zelda playthrough

The Legend of Zelda series has been my obsession ever since I first finished Ocarina of Time over Christmas break in 1998. I was 10 at the time. But even now, 20 years later, I can still remember the feeling of delivering the final blow to Ganon for the first time in my life. It was the first game I had ever finished on my own. From that moment onward, I was utterly hooked.

Now that you know a little about my childhood (not necessarily a good thing), you’ll see why I was a teeny tiny bit excited when Nintendo announced a remake of Link’s Awakening for Nintendo Switch. Oh, who am I kidding — I squealed like a 12-year-old at a Spice Girls concert.

Nintendo canonized the Zelda timeline after the release of Skyward Sword. However, I haven’t done a full series playthrough since. So, I decided I would “right that wrong” by revisiting each game in the series in chronological order. Yes, even Phantom Hourglass (still worth it). Hopefully, playing them in this pseudo-marathon format will provide a better look at the overarching story of the franchise.

12 Legend of Zelda games in under 7 weeks

Throughout The Legend of Zelda, there are 18 mainline games — games that are part of the official timeline — as well as a handful of spinoff titles. During this quest, I intend to play every mainline game in chronological order before Link’s Awakening releases on Sept. 20. However, I will be skipping some games that come after Link’s Awakening in the official timeline. That makes for 12 games in under seven weeks. After I complete each game, I’ll write up an article summarizing my experiences and opinion to post here. Hopefully, marathoning the entire Zelda series doesn’t taint my adoration of the series (as if that were actually possible).

Details aside, I’ll be starting the journey through Hyrule with The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. This is the first game in the official timeline. It’s also the game in which the timeline was canonized. It’s likely to be a doozy of a playthrough, but that just makes it more exciting. So, without further ado, grab your Loftwing and join me for this wild ride!

Just your average nerdy, geeky, dude from California. I'm pretty much obsessed with Nintendo and games in general. Favorite series: The Legend of Zelda (so much so that I even named my dog Zelda)
