Reggie Fils-Aime has gained the privilege of living life at a more relaxed pace since stepping down as president of Nintendo of America. He’s done productive things like give the commencement speech at a college. He’s also recently spoken out against the bogus correlation between video games and violence. But yesterday, on a less serious note, Reggie got to give a shoutout to the Gears 5 staff for naming an achievement after one of his most memorable and peculiar quotations: “My body is ready.”

Xbox head Phil Spencer replied to Reggie’s tweet with, “Respect paid where respect is due.”
Gears 5 releases on Sept. 10 for Xbox One and PC as the latest entry in the Gears of War franchise, and new components of the game are set to be shown off at Gamescom. Seemingly the first achievement unlocked in the game will be “My Body Is Ready,” earned for completing “boot camp” in the game. This phrase began life as an offhand comment from Reggie Fils-Aime at E3 2007 when he stepped on the Wii Balance Board. The utterance somehow became an enduring meme, because that’s just what the internet does, even back in 2007.
In any case, with “My Body Is Ready” appearing in Gears 5, it’s yet more evidence that we live in a friendlier gaming world than we used to. Though with the coming of Microsoft’s Scarlett and Sony’s PlayStation 5 over the next couple years, the so-called console wars will probably be heating up again shortly.
