Hey, paesanos! If you grew up in the ’80s and ’90s, you probably remember The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. Starring pro wrestler Captain Lou Albano, SMBSS was a mix between live-action segments and animated shorts. The live bits featured Mario’s and Luigi’s misadventures in their apartment seemingly under the Brooklyn Bridge, while the cartoons took place in the Mushroom Kingdom. The show aired daily, though Fridays were dedicated to The Legend of Zelda. There were follow-up series for Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World as well.
Like with many old animated works, however, production cels from this show can be rare. On Friday, collector @max64646464 revealed that he’d purchased a treasure trove of materials from the Super Show and Mario 3 cartoons. As a collector of old video game and animation merchandise who produces videos based on his cel collection, this could not have found its way to a better person.

Like many gamers of a certain age, I have fond memories of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! and its sequel series. I’m happy to know that this piece of Mario history is going to someone who will preserve it properly. I hope that he’ll share his new collection with the world via his YouTube channel.
