At E3 2019, Square Enix announced a Romancing SaGa 3 remaster and SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions would release in the west for Nintendo Switch. A tweet from series director Akitoshi Kawazu now reveals that Romancing SaGa 3 is in its final adjustments stage, and more will be announced about the game at Tokyo Game Show (TGS), which will take place Sept. 12 – 15 in Chiba, Japan.
The intent is reportedly to keep this game as close to its original form as possible, so don’t expect a lot of bells and whistles. Personally, that’s precisely how I like my classic JRPGs, so I won’t be complaining. However, there are still “new dungeons to explore, new scenarios to experience, and a ‘New Game-Plus’ function,” which definitely makes it more than a standard beautified port.
The SaGa series is far from the smash hit that Final Fantasy or even Dragon Quest is, hence my title that pokes fun at its popularity. In truth, I’ve only played one title in the series myself — SaGa Frontier on PlayStation 1 — but I really, really want to change that, especially since Frontier was pretty unique back in the day. Romancing SaGa 2 is already available on Switch, but that $24.99 price tag has been keeping me at bay.
Romancing SaGa 3 will release for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, PC, iOS, and Android at an unannounced time.
