Coming soon to compatible devices near you, Disney Plus is The Walt Disney Company’s answer to streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. During their conference in April, Disney revealed a wide range of movies and shows coming to the platform, as well as preliminary details on which systems Disney Plus will be available. At the time, the Nintendo Switch was a possibility, but unfortunately, it appears Disney Plus will not launch on the hybrid console later this year.

When you wish upon a Switch

Earlier today, Disney confirmed that Disney Plus will go live on the following platforms, come November 12:

  • Android mobile devices and Android TV
  • Apple devices (iPhones, iPads, Apple TV)
  • Chromecast
  • Desktop web browsers
  • PlayStation 4
  • Roku devices, Roku TV
  • Xbox One

Disney+ streaming service on Switch Disney

It’s a little disheartening that it’s skipping the Switch for now, but given the wide range of platforms for launch, at least I’m unlikely to miss out. Personally, I’m still waiting on other streaming services like Netflix and Crunchyroll to finally make the Switch; aside from Hulu (which Disney owns a majority stake in) and YouTube, there’s little you can stream on Nintendo’s console. Hopefully it won’t be too long before I can watch the new Marvel Cinematic Universe shows or binge a bunch of my childhood favorite animated movies from the comfort of my Switch…

Additionally, Disney confirmed that Disney Plus will first launch in the United States, Canada, and The Netherlands on November 12. The service will then launch in Australia and New Zealand the following week on November 19. Disney aims to have the service available in most major markets within its first two years, so expect more dates and countries to follow! Disney Plus subscriptions are currently priced at the following rates:

  • United States: $6.99/month, $69.99/year
  • Canada: $8.99/month, $89.99/year
  • Netherlands: €6.99/month, €69.99/year
  • Australia: $8.99/month, $89.99/year
  • New Zealand:$9.99/month, $99.99/year
