Risk of Rain 2 from Hopoo Games and Gearbox for Nintendo Switch in summer

Hopoo Games and Gearbox revealed in Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase today that they will bring Risk of Rain 2 to Nintendo Switch this summer. This game is a “classic roguelike” for up to four players about battling monsters, scoring loot, and escaping a planet. Risk of Rain 2 is currently in Steam Early Access, where it has garnered an “overwhelmingly positive” reception so far. Check out the cinematic trailer.

Weirdly enough, the art style reminds me personally of Fortnite. There is definitely a zaniness to it anyway, what with the guitar and the teddy bear. Anyway, the game will contain over 75 items, and it will include additional unlockable survivors with their own respective abilities to master. There are also Prismatic Trials, “a unique seeded run where everyone can race up a global leaderboard.”

The most perplexing thing about the game to me though is the difficulty scaling: “A unique scaling system means both you and your foes limitlessly increase in power over the course of a game–what once was a bossfight will in time become a common enemy.” Uh, how do boss enemies become common enemies if everyone is always getting stronger? Well, whatever.

The Gearbox PAX West Main Theater show on Aug. 30 at 1:30 p.m. PT will reveal more details about Risk of Rain 2 on Switch, so stay tuned for updates then.
