AeternoBlade II

Back in 2014, a small indie studio released AeternoBlade, a combat-focused Metroidvania that was originally for the 3DS and PlayStation Vita, with remastered versions coming to consoles later. A new gameplay trailer reveals AeternoBlade II will release on Oct. 11.

AeternoBlade got… mixed reviews, which is why It’s such a shock to see that AeternoBlade II exists at all. The thing is, I’m not sure how the developer Corecell can afford to make this game. With a failed Indiegogo campaign, likely poor sales of the original, and basically zero public awareness, the game still continues to be in development, and it looks really good no less. And when I mean zero public awareness, I mean that at the time of writing, the AeternoBlade II gameplay trailer had 73 views on YouTube.

New to AeternoBlade II is a 3D battle system that breaks from the sidescrolling of the original. The visuals have been drastically upgraded, and the combat looks refreshed with the main gimmick of time manipulation further fleshed out. If you’re an indie connoisseur, you should take a look at AeternoBlade II. And I’m sure the developers at Corecell Technology would be overjoyed if even one person bought the game at this point.

I’ll admit that I skipped out on the first game. It looked clunky, blurry, and just all-around kind of bland. AeternoBlade II looks like it could be a new lease on life for the brand, and I hope Corecell Technology gets the chance to see their hard work pay off.

With Luigi’s Mansion 3 on Switch and Indivisible on all other consoles, October will be a tough month to compete in for AeternoBlade II. Best of luck to Corecell Technology, they’ll need it.
