Dragon Quest XI S graphics comparison PS4 PC 3DS

Any time Nintendo Switch gets a particularly beautiful game also released for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, fans hold their breath at what the result will look like. Sometimes you get remarkably faithful achievements like what Panic Button regularly pulls off. And sometimes you don’t. Right now, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is the unfortunate poster child for the latter on Switch, earned or not. However, a host of videos are now showcasing the visual differences between Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition on Switch and the original PlayStation 4 and 3DS versions. And I have to say — XI S seems to hold up very well!

Basically, I’m only noticing a handful of major differences between Dragon Quest XI S and the PS4 version: slightly fuzzier visuals, less attractive textures (particularly on rocks), a bit less foliage, and generally less shininess. That might sound like a substantial difference, but if you watch the videos, it’s really not. The character models look practically the same too. I’m genuinely pleased and surprised with what I’m seeing out of Dragon Quest XI S!

Admittedly, I’m not much of a graphics fiend in the first place. (If I were, I’d buy everything for PC.) But to me, the game looks great. What do you think of Dragon Quest XI S? Lemme hear it!
