Mistover Release Photo

What if the developers of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds made a turn-based RPG? The hotly anticipated answer to a question that literally nobody has ever asked will soon be upon us, as Krafton Game Union has announced they’re bringing their RPG Mistover to Switch on Oct 10.

Developed by the same company that put out massively-multiplayer hits like TERA and PUBG, Mistover is a Mystery Dungeon-style exploration RPG with a sharp, inky art style that I can’t get enough of. Equal parts Don’t Starve and Darkest Dungeon, with a healthy splash of JRPG cuteness, the game has a distinct look. This will surely help it stand out in the ever-growing market of Nintendo Switch RPGs.

Players assume the role of the leader of the ‘Corps’, a group of survivors formed after the mysterious Pillar of Despair appeared and released terrifying creatures onto the world. You and the Corps are tasked with exploring the Vortex that this cataclysm originated from, discovering the secrets behind it and finding a way to put an end to the entire ordeal.

Here’s an overview of Mistover from its Steam listing:

Game Story

The unexpected appearance of the Vortex, Pillar of Despair, unleashed dreadful creatures that brutally raided the world. Defenseless and vulnerable, mankind was soon on the verge of extinction.

When all hope was lost, a miracle happened and the creatures suddenly vanished. Desperate to prevent the next invasion, the survivors created a group called the ‘Corps’ that journeys into the Vortex from whence the creatures emerged. You will lead the Corps to reveal the secrets behind the incidents.

Will the human race succeed in changing the course of their destiny?

Within the Vortex, players will encounter all sorts of difficulties to make their trek harder. Some of these will include internal conflicts like greed, while external factors like limited visibility will further challenge you. To overcome it, you will need to use the skills of 8 different Corps classes and upgrade your gear, though the team points out that improving gear is “not the only way to win.” The game is said to take 40 hours and stretch across five different regions.

Mistover will launch on PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam on Oct 10 for $29.99.
