Solgaleo Lunala

Dust off your 3DS, because GameStop is having a special giveaway this Fall. Players with copies of Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon can receive a free Shiny Lunala or Solgaleo. Head to participating GameStop stores anytime from Oct 21 to Nov 10 to receive your special download code.

Shiny Solgaleo Lunala

To get the Pokémon, use the Pokémon Pass app while in-store to snag the download code. Don’t worry, the app is free, and you can just delete it once you’re finished. Once you get the code, plop it into the Mystery Gift option on your game of choice’s main menu. This code can be used in Sun or Ultra Sun to download a free Shiny Lunala. Players with Moon or Ultra Moon will download Solgaleo instead. These are one-use codes, so don’t try to mooch off your friends.

Upon speaking to the delivery person in the in-game Pokémon Center, players will receive their level 60 Legendary. As both Solgaleo and Lunala are “Shiny locked” in the Generation VII games, this is the only legitimate way to get their Shiny forms.

The sun sets on another generation…

This giveaway is a tad late in the game’s life cycle. The 3DS isn’t exactly on the rise, and Pokémon Sword and Shield are only a few months away. In many ways, this can be seen as a last hurrah for both the 7th Pokémon generation and the 3DS itself. After all, the giveaway finishes just five days before Sword and Shield release worldwide.

Of course, we don’t know exactly how useful this giveaway will be. With Sword and Shield upon us and the National Dex eliminated, Solgaleo and Lunala might not even be programmed into the new games. Only time will tell if the Sun and Moon Legendaries can be transferred into the next generation. That said, it’s always nice to get a free Shiny Pokémon, even if it does end up stuck in an older generation for a while.
